A Styled Wedding Shoot at The Swan Hotel, Bibury
There are some wedding venues that seem almost made for a wedding film, and The Swan Hotel in Bibury is certainly one of them.
Set on the banks of the River Coln in the heart of the Cotswolds, The Swan combines the character of a historic country inn with beautiful gardens, traditional interiors and the unmistakable atmosphere of Bibury itself.
I recently had the opportunity to film a styled wedding shoot at The Swan, working with Adam & Olivia as our couple for the day.
Although this wasn't a real wedding, the aim was to create something that felt as close to a genuine wedding day as possible - natural interactions, relaxed moments and plenty of opportunity to showcase what makes The Swan such a distinctive Cotswolds wedding venue.
Filming at The Swan Hotel, Bibury
One of the things I particularly enjoy about filming at The Swan is the variety available within a relatively intimate setting.
The hotel sits alongside the River Coln, while the gardens provide a beautiful backdrop for portraits, drinks receptions and outdoor ceremonies. The Summer House also provides a particularly charming setting for a ceremony.
Then there's Bibury itself.
The village provides another layer to the visual story, with its Cotswold stone buildings, river, bridges and beautiful surrounding countryside all adding to the atmosphere.
For a wedding videographer, that gives you plenty to work with without needing to manufacture elaborate shots.
Creating Natural Wedding Footage
For this styled shoot, I wanted the footage to feel natural rather than overly staged.
Adam & Olivia were brilliant in front of the camera, which made it possible to concentrate on the sort of moments I would normally look for during a real wedding — the way a couple interact, the small gestures, the laughter and the quieter moments between the bigger parts of the day.
That's an important part of my approach to wedding videography.
I don't want a wedding film to feel like a collection of posed shots. The best footage often comes when couples are simply enjoying themselves and forget that they're being filmed.
A Cotswolds Wedding Venue Full of Character
The Swan is a particularly interesting venue to film because the surroundings do so much of the work.
The historic character of the hotel, the gardens and the River Coln provide a naturally cinematic backdrop, while the wider village of Bibury gives couples the quintessential Cotswolds setting that so many people are looking for.
For me, the challenge as a wedding videographer isn't finding something beautiful to film — there's certainly no shortage of that here.
It's knowing what not to film.
A wedding day is full of moments competing for your attention, and my job is to concentrate on the things that will matter to you when you watch your film years from now.

Although this was a styled shoot rather than a real wedding, it gives a good idea of how I approach filming couples: naturally, unobtrusively and with an emphasis on genuine interaction rather than constant posing.
