A Winter Styled Wedding Shoot at The Frogmill, Near Cheltenham

There’s something particularly atmospheric about The Frogmill in winter.

Set in the Cotswolds countryside near Cheltenham, this historic 16th-century inn combines traditional Cotswold character with beautiful interiors, exposed stone, wooden beams and plenty of warmth.

I was very pleased to be invited to film a styled wedding shoot at The Frogmill, working with Tilly & Jack as our couple for the day.

Although this wasn't a real wedding, the shoot was designed to capture the atmosphere of a winter wedding at the venue — and with the weather outside being particularly cold, we decided to embrace the cosy character of The Frogmill and concentrate on the interiors.

Filming a Wedding at The Frogmill

From a wedding videographer's perspective, The Frogmill offers plenty to work with.

The Mill Room is particularly impressive, with its high vaulted ceiling, exposed stone walls, original beams and dramatic lighting. It has a very different feel from a traditional blank wedding space and provides plenty of visual character without needing much additional decoration.

For this shoot, the warm lighting, candles and floral arrangements worked particularly well against the stone and timber of the room.

It created exactly the kind of atmosphere that works beautifully on film.

Creating a Natural Wedding Film

For the shoot with Tilly & Jack, I wanted the footage to feel natural rather than overly posed.

That's something I try to carry through into all of my wedding films.

Even during a styled shoot, I'm looking for the same things I would look for on a real wedding day — the way a couple interact, small gestures, laughter, movement and those quieter moments between the bigger events.

The aim is for the footage to feel like two people enjoying the day together, rather than two people performing for a camera.

A Cotswolds Wedding Venue Near Cheltenham

The Frogmill is particularly appealing for couples looking for a Cotswolds wedding venue near Cheltenham.

Its location in the Gloucestershire countryside, combined with the character of the historic inn, gives it a very different feel from a large traditional country-house venue. The venue also has 28 boutique bedrooms, making it possible for couples and guests to stay on site.

And while the surrounding countryside provides plenty of opportunities for outdoor footage during the warmer months, the interiors are just as valuable when the weather isn't on your side.

That was certainly the case during this shoot.

Why The Frogmill Works So Well on Film

One of my favourite things about filming weddings is finding the details that give each venue its own identity.

At The Frogmill, that's the combination of Cotswold stone, exposed beams, warm lighting, fireplaces and the character of the old inn.

Rather than trying to make the venue look like somewhere else, I wanted to lean into those characteristics and make them part of the film.

The result is a style that feels warm, intimate and unmistakably Cotswolds.

Watch the Styled Wedding Shoot

I've put together a short film from the shoot with Tilly & Jack, capturing some of the atmosphere of The Frogmill and the winter styling.

Although this was a styled shoot rather than a real wedding, it gives a good idea of how I approach filming couples - naturally, unobtrusively and with an emphasis on genuine interaction rather than constant posing.

If you're planning a wedding at The Frogmill near Cheltenham and are looking for a wedding videographer with a natural, documentary-led approach, I'd love to hear from you.

The venue already has so much character. My job is to capture that atmosphere while making sure you and the people around you remain at the heart of the film.

The aim isn't simply to create a beautiful film of The Frogmill.

It's to create something that brings back what it felt like to be there.
